How Big Plugs make lavander earlier
Clemens Rattmann, Sales Representative Germany, has been working at Florensis for 25 years and 15 years with Big Plugs. He enthusiastically talks about the advantages of working with Big Plugs.
What is the story behind the Big Plugs?
Growers were looking for a lavender with which they could get to the market earlier. With the Big Plug lavender, a lavender can be produced in 12 weeks in the spring.
“Big Plugs make a huge difference in production time” - Clemens Rattmann
What is the advantage for the customer?
A normal lavender has to be planted in the greenhouse around August in order to become a beautiful lavender the following year. Our Big Plug lavender can be planted directly in the field in March. So, much later with the same result. This makes a huge difference in production time for the grower.
Is it sustainable to produce lavender this way?
Because the hardened plant is planted outside already in spring, there is no need for an over-wintering at the nursery. Our Big Plugs grow in a cold greenhouse during the winter where no heat is needed.
How innovative are our Big Plugs in lavender?
The principle of the Big Plugs is not new but our production location produces a top product that has not been seen in the market before. They plant our young plants in Big Plugs trays for outdoor use. These are taken to a cold greenhouse in November to overwinter. In this way we get a stable young plant with a reliable quality that can be processed very easily at the grower.
