Crop protectants

To combat the negative effects of crop protectants, we use organic variants and work with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) wherever possible. This involves the use of fungi, insects and bacteria as natural crop protection agents. Seventy percent of the products we use are organic. We also use mechanical methods for regulating growth. From 2015-2019 our staff efforts, investment in improvements and the application of innovations led to a reduction in our use of environmentally harmful crop protectants of 75% by the end of 2019.

Innovations in sustainable cultivation techniques are developing rapidly. To keep our staff up to date, in 2017 we set up a Green Academy where our ‘green’ staff can take courses and get training in responsible and environmentally sound cultivation.

CO2 emissions

We take a baseline measurement of the CO2 emissions our business operations generate at home and abroad over the year 2019. By working out our carbon footprint we are able to identify the causes of CO2 emissions within Florensis and can then take targeted actions to reduce our footprint. From end 2020 we will be able to measure the development of our CO2emissions and will be reporting on them. Our aim is to reduce our CO2 emissions by 25 percent by 2025 compared with 2019.

Over the past few years, we have been compensating for our emissions on a small scale by funding reforestation programmes in Ethiopia and Kenya. This reforestation also helps combat erosion.
