Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, Ethiopia

In our IPM program at Florensis Ethiopia we use beneficial insects. For example we use Swirski Mite (a miniature spider). This insect is beneficial by the fact it feeds on various pathogenic insects. It’s a 'good' insect eating the 'bad' insects without harming the plants.

Applying IPM in our production process allows us to reduce the frequency of harmful crop protection agents use and to use "softer" products which are compatible with the beneficial insects.

The benefits for our customers from our IPM program are:

1. Safer and more reliable production with less risk from pathogenic insects in a time when many crop protection agents are being banned from use.
2. A more sustainable production with a higher MPS score.
3. Less effect of phytotoxicity from crop protection agents used on the mother plants which translates to better rooting success of the cuttings.

Our IPM program is not limited to the use of beneficial insects but also includes using biological products and techniques which all together contribute to the three benefits mentioned above.
