Supporting Animal Rights Reserved

Protecting Kenyan wildlife

Animal Rights Reserved (ARR) charity is a family endeavour born in 2010 founded by Margaret Zak, dedicated to supporting, protecting and preserving Kenyan wildlife, and aiding sustainable human development.

Challenge in 2020

Wildlife is fundamental to Naivasha's reputation as a tourist destination. It also encourages efforts by local authorities and other stakeholders towards preserving the environment to provide a safe habitat for the animals. ARR is adversely experienced in caring for wildlife around Rift Valley regions, with a wide range of activities based in Naivasha.

Nonetheless, 2020 was a particularly challenging year for them due to some unexpected situations, which caused displacement of wildlife and behavioural changes among residents of Naivasha. Increased risk of poaching, animal starvation and hostile wildlife due to limited grazing area are among the challenges that ensued because of COVID-19 and the flood crises. Even though ARR joined forces with the Kenya Wildlife Service to remedy these outcomes, their financial constraints hindered them from acting promptly.

Affected animals

Our production farm Florensis Kenya is in Naivasha and supports this charity goal since two years. Our donation of €900 was utilized during the time that they were translocating (capture, transport and release) the most affected animals including giraffes and zebras. For this, they needed to purchase more tools and equipment as well as dietary solutions for the affected animals. ARR also helped Florensis Kenya in our efforts to feed the herbivores that still inhabited the riparian areas of Lake Naivasha, besides there being no pasture due to the flood.

By the end of December 2020, the emergent threats had been resolved and most animals were successfully relocated to safer habitats.
