Bouteloua gracilis

Low-growing, tufted grass with brown-green, hairy leaves. The interesting dark flower spikes are comb-shaped and held at right angles. A field of these plants gives the impression of a swarm of mosquitoes hovering above the grass. Hence the name mosquito grass. The flowering stems and leaves make the garden year-round.
