How we create the FlowerTrials®
FlowerTrials starts long before week 24. In October we already have our first meeting where we exchange new ideas and talk about the new highlights. But also in the spring time when we make a start with the garden, many colleagues are involved. We have different ‘planting days’ as we like to call them. This is done by a large team from different departments. We asked a few questions to some of them.

Danielle Koremans, Project Coordinator
Why are you helping at the planting days?
As organizer, I like to be part of the different stages in the process of making the FlowerTrials happen.
What is your role at the FlowerTrials?
On the FlowerTrial days I make sure that everything goes the way as planned. When there is an issue, I need to resolve it almost immediately. I am also the first point of contact for questions from colleagues and sometimes I answer visitors’ questions as well.
What do you like about the planting days?
It is always nice to do something like this with colleagues. Especially with colleagues you don't speak to very often. There is always a nice atmosphere on a day like that.
What is your favourite plant?
Lavandula: It’s beautiful and it smells great!

Jan Eppinga, Product Promoter
Why are you helping at the planting days?
It is fun to do and I like being among colleagues.
What is your role at FlowerTrials?
Talking to visitors and explain the story behind our assortment and especially about our highlights.
What do you like about helping on the planting days?
I like the idea of being part of the initial process and then being able to admire the end result throughout the summer.
What is your favourite plant and why?
It is not easy to name one because it changes sometimes. For now, the Geranium Bloom Me Away. This little jewel will be discovered more and more and fits into the current thinking about garden plants.

Carool de Winter, Customer Service Employee (Wholesale & Export)
Why are you helping at the planting days?
It is good to be busy with something else than the sales part of the organization. I like to see what else happens and to be able to be part of it. Something different from the daily work.
What is your role at the FlowerTrials?
I am really looking forward to meeting my clients for the first time, which hasn't happened yet due to corona. I expect that the week will be full of getting to know our customers and guiding them where necessary.
What do you like about helping out on planting days?
I usually spend my working day behind my computer screen, so I am glad to spend some time in the garden with colleagues from other departments. I don't have much of a green thumb, but it's always nice to learn and see how colleagues who do know how to do things, work. Besides, it's nice to be able to help your colleagues and to deliver results together.
What is your favourite plant and why?
This varies from time to time, as I am still far from knowing everything. At the moment I am a fan of Dianthus Flutterburst®. An incredibly beautiful magenta-white flower with a unique grey-green leaf. This one is definitely in the garden already and keeps on being nice to look at.

Arthur Baan, Supervisor Seed Stock & Germination Laboratory
Why are you helping at the planting days?
For me it is a perfect moment for teambuilding with the department. Figuring things out together and helping another department to find out more about what they do. Also working together to create something beautiful for the FlowerTrials, so that in week 24 we can look back onthe event with a sense of satisfaction and pride.
What is your role at FlowerTrials?
Showing suppliers around and answer any questions they might have.
What do you like about helping on the planting days?
Building a beautiful perennial landscape garden.
What is your favourite plant and why?
Geranium Bloom Me Away is my favourite plant at the moment. Perennials are my favourite anyway. Bloom Me Away is an easy plant with an intense blue colour, that still looks beautiful, even with less sun!

Marco den Dekker, Planner Trial Garden / Nucleus Stock & Breeding
Why are you helping at the planting days?
In general, I like to roll up my sleeves with a group of colleagues and do something beautiful with plants. It is also part of my job to plan and organise the planting material.
What is your role at FlowerTrials?
I am always present at the FlowerTrials itself, but my role really lies in the preparation of the event.
What do you like about helping on the planting days?
Meeting colleagues in a different setting and working on beautiful things, while also meeting people you normally have less contact with.
What is your favourite plant and why?
I certainly have several favourite plants and Salvia Mysty is one of them. Mysty blooms all summer long, is ideal to combine with other plants in a mix, and even attracts insects. Highly recommended in my opinion!
